Last Saturday I got in my new 2001 Cadillac DeVille and headed out of Austin. Yes, I said I got a 2001 Cadillac! Since the 1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo I have at my shop is going to be a major project I knew it was time to get one that could be a daily driver. I'll talk more about it later, but just know that what is now your grandpa's 4-door luxury sedan will soon become a flat black Let's Get Famous Customs Blingmobile and will be ready for season 2!
Now back to my story. I headed out on 290 towards the gritty Texas town of Blanco. As soon as I rolled in it just felt like a down home coutry town. The kind you can only find in Texas. It got even more authentic when I pulled into Riverside Bar, filled with pickup trucks, cowboy hats and some good lookin Texas women. This is where the cd release concert was being held for a true Texas Country artist Cameran Nelson and his band, Guardrail Damage Ahead.
Cameran was a guest on The Bling Johnson Show on Episode 3 last fall. I met him out at Uncle Billy's on Lake Travis during the Summer Concert Series I was a part of. These guys had a stage presence that you
couldn't take your eyes off of. Their lead guitar player jumps around stage like he just drank a case of Red Bull, all without missing a note. The energy, sound and vibe instantly
turned me into a fan.
With Riverside Bar packed to capacity, they played their first set for their hometown fans, and they did not
dissapoint! I had a chance to spend some time after that backstage with Cameran to find out what he's been up to since he was on the show. Now you would think with a brand new cd and
fans all over Texas that some of it would affect his ego, but that could not be further from the truth. My first question I asked him was what he's been up to. I expected an answer like
"I played with so and so" or "We toured this venue and packed the house". Again, not the case.
Always humble and a genuine guy, he started telling me about his driveway. Yes, I said driveway. He explained how he widened it so both of the family vehicles could fit, he brought in a
truckload of crushed granite and compacted it and was proud of doing it all himself. As a huge renovations guy myself I was again reminded why we hit it off so well last
summer.
This leads me to why I went to Blanco in the first place. His brand new cd. This is a collection of 5 songs that are 100% Texas Country titled "Reckless in
Texas". The title track of the same name is a punch in the mouth, tire burnin, 150 mile-an-hour Country Rock song about how we do things in Texas! For the second song it's clear
that their guitar player puts down the Red Bull for a few minutes with a ballad titled "I Mean It". This is a great example of Cameran's genuine country roots coming out and every song
makes you want to hear more.
With the recent launch of our brand new website, I am proud to announce the addition of the Bling Music section. This section will have music of artists
that we hand pick and you can purchase their music online. This section will grow over time, but we want to give artists that we feel you should know about another place to be able to
sell their music and reach new fans. Cameran Nelson & Guardrail Damage Ahead's new cd is the first CD to be sold on
our website. Head over to the Bling Music section and pick one up. You'll be glad you did.
Look for more "Backstage with Bling" blog posts as I am going to a bunch of shows to bring you stories and updates from many of the artists you know and love as well as new ones
that you'll want to add to your playlist. Until next time, thanks for your support and LET'S GET FAMOUS!!
